Why Non-profit?
In our communities, non-profit organizations touch our lives daily. They provide services that make our lives better. A nonprofit organization is one whose purpose is to exclusively serve the public interest.
The principal exempt category which public interest organizations typically use is 501(c)3. This is the portion of the tax code that defines a "charitable organization." Contributions are tax deductible, and the organization is limited to education and service.
The Traveling School is a fully-registered 501(c)3. Our curriculum connects rigorous standards-based academic content, overseas exploration, community development and service projects, and outdoor activity to create a culturally diverse and academically sound program.
The Traveling School uses these components to educate students and help to build self-esteem, increase tolerance, create cultural awareness, and encourage academic exploration. Because of very generous benefactors, the Traveling School is able to offer tuition scholarships to many of our students. We strive to create a balance of full-tuition and scholarship students and look forward to providing more and more scholarships in the future, making our program available to any eligible girl, regardless of ability to pay.
