Why choose the Traveling School?
What makes The Traveling School the ideal academic semester for you?
- Because the Traveling School is regarded as the premier overseas academic and outdoor skills development program for high school girls in the United States. The Traveling School is a non-profit school established in 2000. Our instructors have been leading school trips for students overseas since 1996. Our students have gone on to highly selective colleges across the country – and their experience at The Traveling School helped them get there.
- Because our students benefit from personalized attention from our highly qualified instructors. Our programs are small. Students get to know our teachers, our administrators – and your family is more than just a number. We teach, we run the programs, we organize logistics, we make contacts, we talk with your school, and we know the answers to your questions.
- Because college applications are becoming increasingly competitive. The Traveling School offers a unique experience for students to include on their applications. Our students have gone on to highly competitive colleges because of their motivation to succeed – and The Traveling School helped get them there.
- Because high school is often a less-than-wonderful experience for many students. The Traveling School is an exceptionally positive program that offers girls a chance to fall in love with learning, the outdoors, and a new culture.
- Because of the expertise you learn during the semester.
You learn valuable work and academic skills ranging from interpersonal communication to conflict resolution to wilderness survival. You read novels from local authors, talk with influential members of local communities, and stay with local families. You learn leadership skills and gain confidence in your academic and outdoor abilities.
- Because we have an extraordinary faculty. Our instructors know all the ins and outs of the local culture and customs. Where else do you get to mash yucca in the jungle in a Quichua family’s house or dance with local tribes in African villages under the stars?
- Because girls often experience a decrease in self-confidence during their high school years. The Traveling School has the opportunity to intervene in the negative spiral and restore a girl’s self-confidence.
- Because of the nights spent singing under the stars, laughing on busses, discussing international politics and ethics, volunteering in communities, speaking new languages, and because of the surprise of each new day. Because of the friendships which last forever. Because you wish each day that the semester will never end.
