Central America

Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador:

  • Travel through southern Mexico and diverse Central America by bus, sailboat, foot, canoe, train and bike.
  • Develop fluency in Spanish as you bargain for fabrics in a riot of colors in the bustling markets in Guatemala.
  • Trek through the high canopies and dense vegetation of a tropical rainforest.
  • Learn to scuba dive and snorkel as you try to spot an elusive whale shark while swimming in the war, waters off the coast of Honduras.
  • Live in an indigenous community in El Salvador while helping a former Peace Corps volunteer work with a local women’s cooperative.
  • This semester is for you if you like: ocean, Spanish, hiking, jungles, surfing, white-water rafting, camping, markets, color, modern history, exploration, and poetry.

“Another experience that accentuated my learning was that I visited a lot of the places where history took place.  This experience was like living history; it wasn’t just books and research and sitting, it was being there, imagining what it used to be like and comparing it to now.  Meeting the people who lived through a lot of things in history and learning the true-life stories.  Just getting away from numbers and getting into emotions.”
