FAQ
I love the idea of your school. How many positions do you have available on a regular basis?
Our programs run with two teachers and an assistant. The assistant is either a student teacher or intern, and the position is for a single semester only. We also have our Administrative Staff at our home office. We accept applications year-round because we are always looking for inspired and qualified staff.
How about if I only want to apply for a single semester? We consider every staff person as extremely valuable and invest considerable time into staff training. Therefore, we also prioritize people who are seeking long-term employment with us, whether for several semesters, or year-round work. There are some opportunities for single-semester positions, but the priority is to hire long-term staff.
I'd love to go to Africa, but I've never been. Could I work for an Africa semester? The emphasis is to place instructors in countries and situations where they've been before. This helps with safety, logistics, and student learning. However, if the rest of the staff has experience in a specific country, and your skills balance out their skills in other areas, you may be qualified.
I'm an experienced classroom teacher and I've always wanted to travel. Am I qualified to teach for The Traveling School?
In all honesty, if you are looking to simply travel and relax, you should book a wonderful holiday to your dream destination. A semester with The Traveling School is hard work with long hours and, at times, difficult working and living situations. While we seek qualified academic teachers, we prefer to hire teachers that have a balance of expertise in teaching, travel, and outdoor skills.
I just graduated from college and I'd love to work for your school. What are the chances? The average age for our academic instructors is 33 years old. Our teachers have advanced degrees, extensive travel and work experience, and have a great deal of life experience which has helped them develop good judgment, decision-making abilities, and leadership experience. If you are interested in working for our program, and adding to your life experience and resume, consider applying for a student teaching or intern position.
Do I have to be a certified teacher to teach for The Traveling School? You do not need to be certified. In addition to certified teachers, we hire exceptional teachers who are eligible for certification with minimum course work. We also hire teachers who possess an equivalent of combined teaching experience, applied work experience and college degree.
